Bio » Waiting out the initial Cordyceps outbreak on his father's fishing boat, Owen left the old world behind at four and came ashore in the new at five. He was quickly traded to FEDRA for leniency around his father's black market trading, and Owen spent several years in a military boarding school north of the San Francisco zone. Despite the conditioning and propoganda, school was likely the safest period of his life.
His aunt had contacts within the Fireflies, and after their setback in Pittsburgh, they were happy enough to raid the boarding school for supplies and new recruits. Owen joined for lack of better options, and operated as a recruiter, trainer, and cross-country operative for over a decade. He lost two fingers on his right hand to mundane infection and managed to avoid capture, infection, and death for over a decade. When Marlene died, he took the chance to return to the California coast and check on his family.
Caradog was overtaking the military in the San Francisco zone, successfully expanding supply lines by maintaining smaller boats. For years Owen had avoided going home because the military knew his name and his father's people would know his face; despite finding out his mother was also pregnant during the military collapse, Owen set back out across the country in search of a place to bring her. It made logical sense, not to risk sneaking her out of San Francisco until he had a destination in mind. When he couldn't find settlments to his liking, he tried to use his training as a Firefly to create them--pitting the downtrodden against tyrannical leadership, asking dangerous questions about division of supplies and labor. He was chased out of or led to the dissolution of several communes, until he found something under control of Firefly researchers in Montana.
Unfortunately, it proved idyllic due to the sacrifice of its old and infirm: they had agreed to serve as test subjects in the continued search for a cure. Owen projected his own fear of infection onto the participants, attempting to free them against their will. Due to his actions, and the researchers belief that he hadn't cut his fingers off due to mundane rot, Owen was shut in with a runner--to turn and replace it, or prove worthy of dissection and study as an immune carrier.
His fate is currently unknown.
